ChatGPT is an advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) chatbot developed by OpenAI.
It’s designed for natural language conversations, enabling you to interact with it like talking to a friend or colleague.
It’s in the name!
Chat – refers to conversation.
GPT – refers to Generative Pretrained Transformer
GPT is an AI type trained on text data—books, articles, websites—to understand and generate conversational human-like responses.
ChatGPT can assist with a wide range of tasks.
In addition to ChatGPT being used for individual use, ChatGPT can be integrated into products.
This allows developers to enhance their products with natural language understanding and generation capabilities.
For example, I have a sleep app that can summarize my sleep and give me a text summary of how I slept.

How to start using ChatGPT
You don’t need to download or create an account to use ChatGPT!
Go to chat.openai.com, where you can access it completely free.
I recommend creating an account to save your conversation history, which helps ChatGPT learn your preferences over time. You can still do this for free.
To start using ChatGPT, type a question into the text input box that says “Message ChatGPT” or click one of the suggested pre-made questions.
You are now entering an ongoing back-and-forth conversation with ChatGPT.
As you continue talking with ChatGPT, it will better personalize its answers for your specific needs. It’s just like talking to a friend or colleague. You can ask follow-up questions, seek clarification, or discuss different topics.
If you sign up for an account, ChatGPT will remember your conversations. Again, it’s free to create an account.
The free version lets you experience ChatGPT 4o-mini, which is robust and adequate for learning ChatGPT.
There you go! You can now start exploring and learning the power of ChatGPT.
